Farming Flowers, Breathing Fear

“My parents, my uncle, and I all work for the same employer. Our family has been given a small plot to grow flowers, and next to it, the employer provided us with a simple hut to live in.

I wear a face mask when spraying chemicals on the flowers, but I can’t help worrying. Our kitchen is so close to the plot, our laundry hangs right beside the farm, and my children play nearby. I’m deeply concerned about how the chemicals might affect my family’s health.” – Female agricultural worker from Myanmar, Chiang Mai, November 2024
