Proceedings of the Panel Discussion on the Future of Labour Migration to Japan: New Migration Policies and Recruitment Fees

On 5 June 2024, the Mekong Migration Network (MMN) and Kyoto University’s Asian Studies Unit co-hosted a vibrant panel discussion on “The Future of Labour Migration to Japan: New Migration Policies and Recruitment Fees”. The event gathered civil society leaders, academics, lawyers, recruitment agencies, and migrant advocates to exchange insights on Japan’s evolving migration policies and the urgent need for fairer recruitment practices. Together, participants explored challenges, shared country perspectives, and discussed pathways towards a zero-recruitment fee model.
