Highlights of MMN’s Migrant Consultations on Access to Social Security in Thailand [Video]

The Mekong Migration Network (MMN) presents video highlights from our series of consultations with migrants on their access to social security in Thailand. The meetings, which took place between July and August 2022, were organized by MMN in collaboration with its network members, MAP Foundation, Foundation for Education and Development, and Raks Thai Foundation. Consultations took place in Chiang Mai, Mae Sot, Pang Nga and Samut Sakhon. Between 20 and 30 migrants, representing various employment sectors, including agriculture, fisheries, construction, domestic work, and manufacturing, attended the events in each location.

Ahead of meetings with government officials from the Social Security Office, migrants discussed the challenges they face accessing social security and collectively identified priority issues and recommendations to be presented to government representatives. The consultations provided a rare opportunity for migrant workers to interact and advocate directly to representatives of the Thai Social Security Office, who attended the second half of the consultations as resource persons.

Full videos of the consultations without subtitles can be viewed via the MMN Facebook page.
