The Mekong Migration Network is looking for a Project Coordinator (“Joint Action for Empowerment and Rights Protection for Migrant Workers in the GMS” Project) to join our team. Please see the job announcement below.

The Mekong Migration Network (MMN) in coordination with the Asian Migrant Centre (AMC) and the Foundation for Migrants from the Mekong Neighbourhood (MMN Foundation) is looking for a full-time Project Coordinator. The successful applicant will be based at the MMN Secretariat office in Chiang Mai, Thailand. This position is open for Thai nationals only.

Overview of the Mekong Migration Network

Mekong Migration Network (MMN) is a sub-regional network of civil society organizations and research institutes working on migration issues in the Greater Mekong Subregion (GMS). MMN’s work includes advocacy, information monitoring, research, capacity building and networking. Please see www.mekongmigration.org for more information about MMN.

 

Overview of the Position

The successful applicant will join the MMN Secretariat team, coordinating our ongoing research and advocacy, primarily focusing on the project entitled “Joint Action for Empowerment and Rights Protection for Migrant Workers in the GMS”. While the project is aimed at enhancing rights protection for all migrant workers in the GMS, there is strategic focus on migrant workers in agriculture and other informal sectors who are outside formal social protection schemes.

 Tasks include developing advocacy and awareness raising materials, organizing multi-stakeholder meetings, conducting consultation meetings with migrants, and organizing training programs for CSOs supporting migrants, among others. All activities are to be conducted in collaboration with MMN project partners.

The Project Coordinator will play a key role in ensuring the timely implementation of the MMN’s advocacy and research work, as well as assist in managing the Foundation’s matters. The Project Coordinator will also oversee the work carried out by junior colleagues, interns and volunteers for the project.

 

Roles and responsibilities:

General
To work as part of the MMN Secretariat team to help strengthen the MMN as a sub-regional network promoting the rights of migrant workers in the Greater Mekong Sub-region (GMS)

 

Specific

  1. Project coordination

*Coordinate the implementation of the MMN advocacy and research project entitled “Joint Action for Empowerment and Rights Protection for Migrant Workers in the GMS” in consultation with MMN project partners. Ensure timely and effective implementation of the project.

  1. Research and advocacy
  2. Organise meetings, workshops, conferences
  3. Awareness raising via MMN webpage and social media
  4. Coordination and management of MMN partnerships and media contacts
  5. Reporting
  6. Managing the MMN Chiang Mai Office including Coordinating Foundation Matters
  7. Other tasks as assigned

The successful candidate will work as a part of our multi-cultural team and report directly to the Regional Coordinator. The working language of MMN is English. However, strong writing and speaking skills in Thai are needed for the Project Coordinator to carry out tasks assigned to this position.

 

Qualifications and Experience Required

 

Essential

*Commitment to MMN’s approach and values;

*Strong understanding of migration issues in Mekong countries;

*A Master’s degree or equivalent experience in a relevant field, such as development studies, migration studies, gender studies, international relations or law;

*Minimum of 2 year of relevant work experience in a field related to human rights, migration, gender or development;

*Fluency in speaking and excellent writing skill in English and Thai;

*Strong research skills;

*Ability to work independently and as part of a team;

*Ability to work in a diverse linguistic and cultural environment;

*Ability to work effectively under pressure and meet deadlines;

*Excellent interpersonal and communication skills;

*Excellent attention to detail;

*Proven computer literacy (Microsoft Word, Excel & PowerPoint)

Desirable

*Good understanding of the country and sub-regional political, economic and social context in the Mekong

*Strong public speaking skills

*Experience using social media (Twitter, Facebook etc.) for advocacy purposes

*Skills to design posters, videos or other forms of visuals

*Skills to layout reports

*Ability to travel as and when the Covid-19 situation allows.
