The 10th Anniversary of the Mekong Migration Network<\/strong><\/p>\n

celebrating Collective Research and Advocacy in the Mekong<\/strong><\/p>\n

In 2001, NGOs, academic institutes and mass organizations in the Mekong countries came together to develop a resource book on Migration in the Mekong Region. This collaboration gave birth to the Mekong Migration Network (MMN) in 2003 and to a series of publications related to migration and advocating the rights of migrants in the Mekong region.<\/p>\n

On the occasion of the 10th Anniversary, as well as welcoming you to share Shan food and enjoy a Mekong cocktail with us, we will also present our two latest publications:<\/p>\n

Climate Change and Migration<\/em><\/p>\n

And<\/em><\/p>\n

Arrest, Detention and Deportation in Thailand: Policies, Issues and Experiences of Migrants<\/em><\/p>\n

The Climate Change and Migration report takes two selected communities in Burma\/Myanmar and Vietnam and explores how the environmental changes are impacting on the livelihoods and life and work choices people make, particularly with regards to migration.<\/p>\n

The Arrest, Detention and Deportation (ADD) in Thailand report is a follow up to the 2008 MMN report on the topic. MMN partners have carried out research to map out the policies and guidelines relating to the ADD, carried out key informant interviews, and interviewed over 200 migrants who have been subject to ADD to study the experiences on ADD on the ground. The findings reveal striking gaps and inconsistency in the practices of ADD in Thailand affecting so many migrants\u2019 lives today.<\/p>\n
