Labour ministry warns public about fake online job recruiters

SUMMARY: The Ministry of Labour and Vocational Training (MLVT) warned Cambodians seeking jobs abroad to be cautious of deceptive ads on social media. It urged people to only use licensed recruitment agencies and avoid unauthorized brokers, which could lead to human trafficking. The ministry emphasized the legal consequences of trafficking, with penalties ranging from seven to 20 years in prison. Citizens are encouraged to report illegal recruitment activities. As of June, over 1.3 million Cambodians work abroad, mainly in Thailand and South Korea. In April, 78 migrant workers were rescued from an employment scam in Saudi Arabia.
