Key Data & Project Sites

The geographic locations for primary data collection were selected based on:

  • the number of migrants in the area;
  • the existence of project partners with well established local knowledge and relationships with affected migrant communities;
  • to provide  regional balance (North, Central, East and South of Thailand); and
  • to balance out the areas where Burmese, Cambodian or Laotian migrants are largely employed.

Based on the above criteria, research was undertaken in:

  • Chiang Mai Province
  • Mae Sai, Chiang Rai Province
  • Mae Sod, Tak Province
  • Mukkadahan Province
  • Phang Nga Province
  • Ranong Province
  • Rayong Province

Migrants who were interviewed worked in a range of sectors, and efforts were made to include a gender balance.
